Opole

Opole is a small city in southern Poland that’s often overlooked by tourists in favour of larger destinations like Krakow or Warsaw. But with a well-preserved old town, a lively cultural scene and some great food, Opole is well worth a visit. The city centre is compact and easy to explore on foot, with a mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. There are plenty of churches and other historical buildings to see, as well as a lively market square and a few good museums. The city is also known for its music and cultural festivals, which take place throughout the year. And if you’re looking for some good Polish food, Opole won’t disappoint – the local specialities include kiełbasa (sausage), pierogi (dumplings) and żurek (a type of soup).
