Košice

Košice is Slovakia’s second largest city and its historical and cultural capital. Situated in the east of the country, close to the borders with Hungary and Ukraine, Košice has always been a melting pot of cultures and religions. This is reflected in the city’s architecture, which is a mix of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau styles. The main square, Hlavné námestie, is one of the prettiest in Europe, and is surrounded by historic buildings, including the neo-Gothic Town Hall and the neo-Renaissance St. Elisabeth Cathedral. There are also a number of museums and art galleries, including the Slovak National Gallery, which is housed in a beautiful 14th century building. Košice is also a great place to eat, with a wide variety of restaurants serving traditional Slovak food, as well as international cuisine.
