A calm Belarusian town with a 16th-century palace-fortress, recognized by UNESCO. Its historic center includes baroque churches and medieval market square.
Nyasvizh, a town of 15,968 people located 120 kilometers southwest of Minsk, draws visitors to its Renaissance-style Nesvizh Castle, the white-walled Corpus Christi Church, and its medieval city gates. Walk through gilded halls filled with 16th-century art, descend into underground crypts holding centuries of aristocratic history, or stroll through gardens designed in the Italian style.
Exploring Nesvizh Castle
The Radziwiłł family constructed this castle in 1583 and lived here until 1939. The three-story structure evolved through centuries, incorporating Renaissance facades, Baroque towers, and Rococo interiors. You'll find 30 restored palace rooms, including the Golden Hall with its painted ceiling depicting mythological scenes, and the Portrait Gallery displaying family paintings from the 16th-19th centuries.
Religious Architecture
The white-walled Corpus Christi Church, built between 1587 and 1593, introduced Baroque architecture to Eastern Europe. Descend into the family crypt to see 72 coffins of the Radziwiłł dynasty, each decorated with detailed coat of arms and Latin inscriptions. The nearby Benedictine monastery rises above the city with two 45-meter towers, their copper domes visible from most streets.
Historic City Center
A clock tower has marked time from the Baroque Town Hall since the 1700s. Walk through the Slutsk Gate from 1700, where stone carvings depict the city's medieval coat of arms. The 1721 Craftsman House shows how wealthy merchants lived, with its decorated stone facade and steep roof reflecting Northern European building traditions.
