Polotsk is a small city in northwestern Belarus, situated on the Dvina River. It is one of the oldest cities in Belarus, founded in 862 by the Viking Rurik. The old part of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Polotsk is also known for its intricate lacework, which is considered some of the finest in the world.
