The Cave of Altamira in Cantabria, Spain, is a prehistoric cave that contains some of the earliest known cave paintings in the world, as well as other artifacts. The paintings, which were discovered in 1879, date back to around 15,000 BC and depict various animals, including bison, horses, and deer. The cave was closed to the public for many years due to concerns about the paintings' preservation, but it reopened in 2008.
