Situated in the north-east of Aragon, Monzón is a small town that punches well above its weight. It’s an ancient place, first mentioned in documents in the 10th century, and the well-preserved medieval centre is a joy to explore. Narrow streets wind their way between towering stone houses, many of which have lovely carved balconies. The town’s main square is a picturesque spot, dominated by the imposing Santa María la Mayor church. There are several interesting museums in Monzón, including the Regional Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Torture, and the town is also a great base for exploring the stunningly beautiful Aragonese Pyrenees.
