A 3-kilometer golden beach meets the Maspalomas sand dunes, with year-round 20°C waters. Home to the Yumbo Centrum's 200 shops and Europe's largest Pride festival in May.
Playa del Inglés sits on the southern coast of Gran Canaria, where a three-kilometer golden beach meets the Maspalomas sand dunes. You can swim in 20-degree waters year-round, shop at the Yumbo Centrum's 200 stores, or join the crowds at one of 30 nightclubs. In May, over 100,000 people gather here for one of Europe's largest Pride festivals.
Three Kilometers of Golden Sand
The main beach stretches for nearly three kilometers, with a width of about 100 meters, giving you plenty of space even during busy seasons. The water stays between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius throughout the year. The northern section has showers, bathrooms, and parasol rentals, while the southern end near Maspalomas lighthouse is quieter with fewer facilities.
Water Sports at the Beach
Different sections of the beach suit different activities. The main beach area has calm waters for swimming, while Punta de Maspalomas has consistent waves for surfing. Several surf schools operate between the two areas, with lessons available for both surfing and kitesurfing. The strongest waves appear at the point between Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas.
Shopping and Entertainment at Yumbo
The Yumbo Centrum, opened in the 1970s, houses 200 shops and 30 entertainment venues. During the day, you'll find beachwear, electronics, and souvenir shops. After sunset, the center comes alive with bars, clubs, and cabaret shows. The annual Pride festival in May brings performances, parades, and parties across the complex.
Exploring Maspalomas Dunes
At the southern end of Playa del Inglés, you can walk directly onto the protected Maspalomas Dunes. The sand formations rise several meters high and stretch across 400 hectares. The beach along the dunes has distinct sections: the central area is popular with families, while the southern section is designated for naturists.
Getting Around
The Paseo Costa Canaria promenade runs along the entire beach, from Playa de las Burras to the Maspalomas dunes. This paved walkway makes coastal exploration straightforward. Local buses run every 30 minutes between Playa del Inglés and Las Palmas, with the journey taking about 30 minutes.
