Ponferrada is a small city in the north-west of Spain, in the province of León. It’s best known as the home of the Knights Templar, whose impressive castle, the Castillo de Ponferrada, towers over the city. The castle is now a museum, and well worth a visit. Ponferrada is also a good base for exploring the surrounding area, which is full of beautiful villages, mountain ranges and stunning natural scenery.
