Bikaner is an ancient city in the north-western Indian state of Rajasthan, founded in 1488 by Rao Bika. It is located west of the Thar Desert, about 330 kilometres (205 mi) from the state capital Jaipur. The city was the capital of the former princely state of Bikaner. Bikaner is famous for its camels and for its Rajasthani cuisine.
The old city of Bikaner is surrounded by a 7 km (4.3 mi) long wall. There are eight gates, but now only six remain. The city has a desert climate, with very hot summers and cool winters.
