Key Historical Sites

The Charminar, a 16th-century monument with four decorative minarets, stands in the center of Hyderabad's Old City. You can climb to its upper levels for views of the surrounding area. Near the Charminar, you'll find the Mecca Masjid, a grand mosque that can accommodate up to 10,000 people. About 11 kilometers west of the city center, you can explore Golconda Fort, a large hilltop fortress that was once the Qutb Shahi dynasty's capital.

At the Salar Jung Museum, you can see a vast collection of art and artifacts from around the world, gathered by one family over generations. Chowmahalla Palace, once the official residence of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, gives you a glimpse into the lives of Hyderabad's former rulers. For shopping, go to Laad Bazaar near Charminar, known for its colorful bangles, traditional jewelry, and textiles.

Transportation in Hyderabad

You can fly to Hyderabad, with direct flights available from major Indian cities and international destinations. In the city, use the new Hyderabad Metro to avoid traffic. Auto-rickshaws and ride-hailing apps work well for shorter trips. When you're in the Old City, walking is often the best way to explore the narrow streets and discover interesting spots.
