Pune is a city in western India, in the state of Maharashtra. It is the second largest city in the state and the ninth largest in India. Situated 560 metres (1,837 feet) above sea level on the Deccan Plateau, Pune is the administrative headquarters of Pune district and the Maratha Empire.
Pune is known for its educational institutions, cultural opportunities, and its pleasant climate. Pune is also the birthplace of the Indian classical music form of Hindustani classical music.
The city has a mix of old and new architecture. There are a few British-era buildings, such as the Pune Municipality building and the Fergusson College, and a few old temples, such as the Shaniwarwada temple. Newer buildings include the Aga Khan Palace and the Osho International Meditation Resort.
