Abadan is a city in southwestern Iran. It is the capital of the Abadan County. At the 2011 census, its population was 573,074, in 144,816 families. Abadan is located on the Shatt al-Arab waterway, which divides Iran and Iraq. The city was extensively damaged during the Iran–Iraq War.
