Zahedan is the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran. With a population of 1,112,906, it is the largest city in the province. Zahedan is located at an altitude of 1,334 metres (4,371 feet) and has a hot desert climate (Köppen climate classification BWh). The city has been an important trade center for centuries, and is home to a large bazaar. Zahedan is also a major transportation hub, with roads and railways connecting it to all of Iran's major cities.
