Fukushima is one of Japan’s most interesting and under-the-radar destinations. It’s best known as the home of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl. However, the city is slowly rebuilding and is now open to tourists. There are a number of interesting sights in Fukushima, including the ruins of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, the Fukushima Prefectural Museum, and the Fukushima Jidai Matsuri (Festival of the Ages), one of Japan’s largest and most colourful festivals. The city is also home to a number of excellent restaurants and bars, and the people are warm and welcoming. Fukushima is an interesting and unique city, and is well worth a visit.
