Utsunomiya is the capital of Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. It is located in the northern Kantō region, in the center of the prefecture. As of September 2015, the city had an estimated population of 518,000 and a population density of 1,010 persons per km². Its total area was 506.85 square kilometres.
Utsunomiya is famous for its gyoza (dumplings). Several restaurants in the city claim to have invented the dish.
