Nestled on the banks of the Kedah River, Alor Setar is the capital of the Malaysian state of Kedah. The city is a melting pot of Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures, and is home to a large number of historical mosques, temples and other heritage buildings. The city’s main attraction is the beautiful Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, which spans the Kedah River and is the longest bridge in Southeast Asia. The bridge is illuminated at night, making it a popular spot for photographers and night-time strollers. Alor Setar is also a great place to sample some of Malaysia’s delicious street food, including roti canai, nasi lemak and char kway teow.
