Shah Alam is the capital of the Malaysian state of Selangor. It is located within the Petaling District and is situated about 25 km west of the country's capital, Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam replaced Kuala Lumpur as the capital on 1 February 1974, due to Kuala Lumpur's incorporation into the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam was once known as Kuala Lumpur's satellite city.
Today, Shah Alam is a modern, well-planned city with a population of over 1.5 million. It is home to a number of attractions, including the Blue Mosque, the Istana Alam Shah, the State Secretariat Building, the Shah Alam Stadium and the Shah Alam Convention Centre.
