Ciudad Bolívar is a city in southeastern Venezuela, on the banks of the Orinoco River. It is the capital of the Bolívar State and the administrative center of the Guayana Region. The city is located in the middle of the country, at an altitude of 200 meters (660 ft) above sea level. Ciudad Bolívar has a population of 558,846 inhabitants (2010 census), and is the second most populous city in the country after Caracas. The city is also the main urban center of the Guayanese Shield, the most important region of Venezuela's economy.
