Coro is an enchanting colonial city in western Venezuela, founded in 1527 by the Spanish. It is one of the oldest colonial settlements in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Coro's well-preserved historic center is a treasure trove of churches, convents, mansions and other buildings from the 16th to 18th centuries. The city is also famed for its handicrafts, particularly its beautiful silver jewelry. Coro is a popular destination for day trips from the nearby beach resort of Puerto La Cruz.
