Sveti Vlas stretches along Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, where the Balkan Mountains meet the water. You can walk the south-facing beaches, watch sailing competitions at Marina Dinevi, or take a 15-minute boat ride to see the Byzantine churches of Nessebar. The town stays calmer than nearby Sunny Beach, with most visitors spending their days swimming and evenings dining at the waterfront restaurants.

Getting to Sveti Vlas

Burgas Airport is 25 minutes away by car, with regular buses connecting to the town center. You can also reach Sveti Vlas by boat from Nessebar or by bus from Sunny Beach, which takes about 15 minutes. Many visitors rent cars to explore the surrounding area and the Balkan Mountain foothills.

Beaches and Swimming

The central beach stretches for one kilometer, with fine golden sand and clear water. Its south-facing position creates sun exposure from morning until evening. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas or bring your own to the free zones. The water remains typically calm during summer, and the beach maintains Blue Flag status due to its water quality and safety standards.

Marina Dinevi

The marina accommodates 300 yachts and contains a service center with equipment shops and training facilities. You'll find restaurants and cafes along the marina's promenade, where boats come and go throughout the day. During summer evenings, the waterfront fills with people walking and dining.

Weather and Environment

The Balkan Mountains block cold northern winds, while sea breezes cool the shore in the afternoons. The mountain-to-sea air movement keeps the area's air clean, making it comfortable for people with allergies. Temperatures stay mild from May through October, with July and August being the warmest months.

Activities and Sports

You can try jet skiing, water skiing, and windsurfing at the beaches. The town has tennis courts and gyms, plus horse riding trails in the nearby countryside. In July, Marina Dinevi hosts the International Sailing Regatta, bringing competitive sailors from across Europe.

Day Trips and Transport

Water taxis and buses run regularly to Nessebar, where you can explore Byzantine churches and Roman ruins. If you want more activity, Sunny Beach's water parks and clubs are a 15-minute taxi ride away. Local buses connect these resorts every 30 minutes during summer.

Historical Background

Founded in the 2nd century BC as Larisa by Thracians, the town later became Sveti Vlas, named after Saint Blaise, the patron saint of merchants and farmers. While the original four churches from the 14th century no longer exist, you can visit the new Church of Saint Blaise, built in 2008, located 500 meters from the town center.
