Paradise Island lies just north of Nassau, connected by two bridges across Nassau Harbour. On this 685-acre island, you can plunge down a 60-foot water slide through a shark-filled lagoon at Atlantis Resort, swim alongside dolphins at Dolphin Cay, or walk the grounds of an authentic 14th-century French monastery. The island's beaches stretch for 5 miles, while its casino ranks as the Caribbean's largest.

Getting to Paradise Island

Two bridges span Nassau Harbour, connecting Paradise Island to Nassau's downtown. You'll need 30 minutes to drive from Lynden Pindling International Airport along Bay Street and Paradise Island Bridge. Taxis cross the bridge frequently, and many visitors walk the 15-minute route from Nassau's cruise port to the island's southern shore.

Climate and Weather

Daily temperatures range from 25°C (77°F) in January to 30°C (86°F) in October. June receives the most rain with 217 mm, while March sees only 30 mm. The warm climate continues year-round, though hurricanes can occur from June through November. Water temperatures stay between 24°C (75°F) and 29°C (84°F) throughout the year.

Aquaventure Water Park

This 141-acre water park contains 20 million gallons of water across 18 water slides. The Mayan Temple's Leap of Faith sends you down a 60-foot near-vertical drop through a clear tunnel surrounded by sharks. A mile-long river ride includes waves and rapids, while 20 swimming areas and 14 pools accommodate all swimming abilities.

Marine Life and Conservation

At the 14-acre Dolphin Cay, you can interact with marine mammals while learning about their rehabilitation. The surrounding marine habitat houses 50,000 animals from 200 species. Join marine education programs through the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation or watch marine biologists during feeding sessions. The foundation works on coral reef restoration and sea turtle protection in Bahamian waters.

Beaches and Swimming

Cabbage Beach runs along the northern coast with reef-protected swimming areas. The western section, Paradise Beach, tends to be quieter and has good snorkeling spots close to shore. You'll find beach chairs and umbrellas along the beach, with water sports equipment rental stations at regular intervals.

Entertainment Options

The 60,000-square-foot Atlantis Casino has over 700 slot machines and 85 gaming tables. Aura Night Club spans 9,000 square feet with two dance floors and reserved seating areas. At Joker's Wild Comedy Club, you can watch North American comedians perform nightly, while the Atlantis Theater shows new movies in two modern auditoriums.
