Bangui is home to a mix of peoples including the indigenous Baya, Banda, Mandjia, Sara, and Mboum. The city also has a significant population of Central Africans of French descent.

The city is home to a number of religious groups, including the Catholic Church, Protestant denominations, Muslims, and Jews.
