Frauenfeld is a small city in the canton of Thurgau in northeastern Switzerland. It is the capital of the district of Frauenfeld. The city has a population of about 26,000 and is the main commercial and cultural center of the Thurgau. Frauenfeld is an old city, first mentioned in 831 as part of the donation of the Alamannic king Louis the Pious. The city is first documented as a city in 1249. The old city of Frauenfeld has a well-preserved city wall and a number of churches, including the Frauenfeld Cathedral, built in the 12th century. The city is also home to the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.
