This city in the Jura mountains is an industrial center, famous for its watchmaking and jewelry industries. But despite its unglamorous reputation, La Chaux-de-Fonds is worth a visit. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its unique architecture – a mix of Art Nouveau and Jugendstil (German for “youth style”) – and its historic importance to the watchmaking industry. There are plenty of interesting museums and art galleries to explore, and the city’s parks are a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing. La Chaux-de-Fonds may not be the most beautiful city in Switzerland, but it’s definitely worth a visit.
