Tunja is a city that’s seen better days. Once a thriving commercial and cultural center, it’s now a shadow of its former self, the victim of political instability and economic decline. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth a visit. The city’s colonial architecture is stunning, and the city’s position at the foot of the Andes makes for some impressive scenery. There are also a few interesting museums, including the Museo de Oro and the Museo de las momias, both of which are well worth a visit. Tunja may not be at its best, but it’s still a fascinating place to visit.
