Mansoura, meaning "the victorious", is a city in the Dakahlia Governorate of Egypt. It is located on the east bank of the Damietta Branch of the Nile River, which is connected to the Mediterranean Sea. Mansoura was founded in 1187 by the Fatimid Caliph, al-Adid. The city has a population of approximately 1 million people and is the capital of the Dakahlia Governorate. Mansoura is home to the University of Mansoura, which is the largest university in the city and the second largest in the Delta region. The al-Azhar University, which is one of the most prestigious universities in the world, is also located in Mansoura.
