Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, the white-washed villages of Guadix appear to have been frozen in time. A labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways wind their way between the houses, many of which are adorned with pretty flower pots and brightly coloured tiles. The locals are a friendly bunch and will be more than happy to show you around their village, or take you to one of the local tapas bars for a taste of the region’s famous garlic-laden cuisine. If you’re feeling adventurous, take a walk up to the nearby caves of the Sacromonte, where the locals have been living in caves for centuries.
