Discover Majorca, Spain's largest Balearic Island with breathtaking mountain terrain, clear waters, a rich history, and a distinct local culture.
Welcome to Majorca, a Spanish island known for its beach resorts, limestone mountains, and Roman and Moorish remains.
Majorca, or Mallorca, is the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands. Although it's famed for its beach resorts, there's so much more to Majorca than just sun and sand.
The island's history stretches back to the Romans, and their presence can be seen in the capital city, Palma. The Palma Cathedral, a stunning piece of Gothic architecture, took almost 400 years to build and is a testament to the island's rich past. Palma itself is a vibrant city with a wide array of shops, restaurants, and museums.
Inland, the island is characterized by a range of limestone mountains, the Serra de Tramuntana. This mountain range is great for hiking and offers fantastic views of the island. It's also home to many small villages that offer a taste of traditional Majorcan life.
The island has a strong culinary scene, heavily influenced by Mediterranean flavours. Fresh seafood is a highlight here, and you'll find plenty of local dishes featuring it. But don't miss out on trying 'sobrasada', a local sausage made from pork, paprika and other spices.
If you're interested in history and architecture, don't miss the Bellver Castle. This circular castle was built in the 14th century and offers an incredible panoramic view of Palma.
There are more than 200 beaches to choose from. Some of the most popular ones include Playa de Muro, Cala Agulla and Es Trenc. They can get busy in summer months, so if you prefer quieter places, try to go off the beaten path.
