Beach in Alicante

Playa de San Juan

This 7-kilometer Mediterranean beach near Alicante has calm waters and golden sand. Visitors can join volleyball games, cycle along palm-lined promenades, or explore rocky coves at Cabo de las Huertas.

Playa de San Juan stretches 7 kilometers along Alicante's coastline. Walk or cycle along the palm-lined promenade, stopping at Spanish cafés serving fresh seafood and local drinks. Cool off in the Mediterranean Sea, join a beach volleyball game, or practice your swing at the adjacent Alicante Golf Course designed by Severiano Ballesteros. At the northern end, explore the rocky coves of Cabo de las Huertas.

The Beach

The 7-kilometer golden sand beach slopes gently into the Mediterranean, making it ideal for families with young children. You'll find 12 shower points, foot-wash stations, and first aid posts positioned every kilometer along the beach. Tall palms along the promenade create natural shade spots throughout the day. The beach maintains Blue Flag status for its water quality and cleanliness.

Sports

Play volleyball at one of the 20 courts or work out at the outdoor fitness zones. Your children can enjoy playgrounds with swings, slides, and rope net pyramids. The marked sports areas include spaces for football and a skateboarding section with ramps. Rent windsurfing equipment, kayaks, or pedal boats from the water sports shops. A dedicated cycling lane runs the length of the beach.

Getting There and Parking

Take the TRAM from Alicante city center to reach the beach in 20 minutes. Board the L4 tram at Luceros station and exit at Londres stop, or take L3 to El Campello station. Trams run every 15 minutes during summer and every 30 minutes in winter. Three main parking areas sit behind the promenade. Bus routes 21 and 22 stop at Costa Blanca and Plaza Coruña stations.

San Juan Festival

On June 24th, locals and visitors gather for the Hogueras de Alicante to mark the summer solstice. Watch as over 100 bonfires light up the shoreline after sunset. Listen to live music and watch fireworks illuminate the night sky. At midnight, join the tradition of throwing fruit and coins into the sea while making wishes.

Dining and Refreshments

Stop at the cafés and bars along the promenade for refreshments. Try local specialties at ice cream parlors La Ibense and El Cantonet de Jijona, such as leche merengada (a milkshake with egg whites and cinnamon) or orxata (a drink made from tiger nuts).
