Villena is a small, historic town in the province of Alicante, southern Spain. It’s home to the impressive Castillo de Villena, a Moorish castle dating back to the 10th century, and the Gothic-style Santa María la Mayor church. The town is a popular stop on the way to the beaches of the Costa Blanca, and its narrow streets and squares are lined with traditional white houses with red tiled roofs. There are a few good restaurants and tapas bars, and Villena’s lively Sunday morning market is a must-visit.
