Newry is a city in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is the most populous city in Northern Ireland, with a population of 26,273 at the 2011 Census. It lies on the River Newry, 8 miles (13 km) from the border with the Republic of Ireland. The city is the subject of a song, "The Streets of Newry", by Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison.
Newry is a popular destination for shopping, owing to its location close to the border with the Republic of Ireland and the availability of duty-free goods. It is also a popular destination for anglers. The city contains two cathedrals and the ruins of a third, as well as a castle and several other historical monuments.
