Kumasi, the traditional capital of the Ashanti kingdom, is one of Ghana’s largest and most vibrant cities. It’s a lively, noisy place, full of markets, street traders and hawkers, as well as churches and mosques. The main market, Kejetia, is one of the largest in Africa, and is a great place to buy all sorts of souvenirs, from traditional Ashanti gold jewelry to carved wooden animals. There are also a number of interesting museums and monuments in Kumasi, including the imposing Fort Christiansborg and the Asantehene’s Palace. The city is also a great place to eat, with a wide range of restaurants serving up delicious Ghanaian cuisine.
