King Edward Point
King Edward Point is a small settlement on the southernmost tip of South Georgia Island. It's the only permanently inhabited place in the South Sandwich Islands, and one of the most remote places in the world. The settlement is home to a small British military garrison and a few scientists and support staff. The only other inhabitants of the islands are the thousands of penguins and seabirds that call the island home.
The scenery at King Edward Point is spectacular, with rugged mountains and glaciers surrounding the small harbour. The harbour is a busy place, with boats coming and going to transport people and supplies to the various scientific stations located on the island. There's also a small museum in the settlement, which is worth a visit to learn more about the history and wildlife of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
