Quetzaltenango, also known as Xela, is a city in western Guatemala. It is the second largest city in the country, and the capital of the department of Quetzaltenango. The city is located at an altitude of 2,330 meters (7,643 feet) above sea level. Quetzaltenango is the cultural and economic center of the Western Highlands of Guatemala. It is famous for its many markets, for its traditional textile industry, and for its coffee plantations.
