Kokshetau is a small city in the north of Kazakhstan, near the Russian border. It's a popular stop for travellers crossing the country, as it's the last major city before the long stretch of nothingness that is the Kazakh steppe. The city is home to a large Russian population, and the culture is decidedly Russian. The city is home to a few interesting attractions, including a large Russian Orthodox cathedral and a few museums. There are also a few good restaurants in town. The city is also a great place to stock up on supplies, as it's one of the few places in Kazakhstan with a good selection of Western brands.
