Marijampolė is a small city in southern Lithuania, located on the banks of the Šešupė River. It is an important administrative, cultural, and educational center. The city is home to the Marijampolė State University and the Marijampolė Gymnasium. It is also the birthplace of the Lithuanian basketball player Šarūnas Marčiulionis.
