Comrat is the capital of the Gagauzia autonomous region in Moldova. It is located on the right bank of the river Chilia, which forms the border with Romania. The city has a population of about 28,000. Comrat is the birthplace of the Gagauz people and is the spiritual center of Gagauzia. The city is home to the Gagauz National Assembly, the Gagauz Museum, and the Gagauz Orthodox Cathedral.
