Antsiranana is the largest city in Madagascar and the capital of the Diana Region. It is located on the north coast of the island, facing the Mozambique Channel. The city has a population of 324,164 (2013 census). The name Antsiranana is composed of the Malagasy words antsira (meaning "north") and ana (meaning "city" or "town").
The city is a popular tourist destination, with a number of beaches and colonial architecture. The city is also home to the Antsiranana Province's largest market.
