Cabo San Lucas sits at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. This coastal city draws visitors with its iconic El Arco rock formation, sport fishing in rich waters, and lively beaches like Medano Beach. Snorkel in clear bays, tee off on oceanfront golf courses designed by pros like Jack Nicklaus, or dance the night away at beachside clubs. From luxury resorts to rugged desert landscapes, Cabo caters to various interests and budgets.

El Arco and Land's End

El Arco, a distinctive rock arch, marks the southernmost point of the Baja Peninsula. Take a boat tour to see this natural landmark up close and photograph the craggy rock formations. Many tours stop at Lover's Beach on the calm bay side for swimming and sunbathing. On the Pacific side, Divorce Beach has stronger currents but provides wide ocean views.

Beaches for Every Preference

Medano Beach is Cabo's main swimming beach, buzzing with activities. Rent jet skis, try parasailing, or relax at one of the beach bars along the sand. For a calmer atmosphere, head to Chileno Beach or Santa Maria Beach. Their protected waters make them good spots for snorkeling among colorful fish. Bring your own gear or rent from beachside vendors.

Sport Fishing Opportunities

Cabo's waters attract big game fish where the Pacific and Sea of Cortez meet. Charter a boat to try catching marlin, tuna, dorado and more. In October, the Bisbee's Black & Blue Tournament takes place, offering millions in prize money.

Whale Watching Excursions

From December to April, whales migrate to the waters around Cabo. Book a whale watching tour for a chance to see humpback whales breaching and gray whales with their calves. Many tours use smaller inflatable boats that can approach these animals more closely.

Golfing Near the Ocean

Cabo's golf options have expanded in recent years, with courses designed by well-known golfers like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Play against a backdrop of desert meeting sea at Cabo del Sol, Quivira, or Diamante. The Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol ranks among the world's top 100 courses. Book tee times in advance, especially during busy periods.

Transportation in Cabo

Most visitors arrive at Los Cabos International Airport, about 30 minutes from Cabo San Lucas. Find taxis and private shuttles at the airport. Within Cabo, taxis are common but agree on a price before starting your journey. For trips between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, take the inexpensive public buses that run frequently along the main highway. Renting a car allows more freedom to explore, but be aware that you may encounter occasional checkpoints.

Best Times to Visit

Cabo has sunny, warm weather throughout the year. Winter brings comfortable temperatures and calm seas, along with more visitors and higher prices. Summer offers lower rates, but temperatures are high and there's a possibility of hurricanes. For fewer crowds and pleasant weather, visit during May or October. Whale watching season lasts from December through April. Regardless of when you visit, Cabo's natural landscapes and active atmosphere create a memorable vacation setting.
