Nezahualcóyotl is a Mexican city, the most populous in the State of Mexico and the 14th most populous municipality in Mexico. The city is located in the southeast of the state, bordering the municipalities of Ecatepec, La Paz, Chalco, and Chimalhuacán, in the Valley of Mexico. It is named after the poet Nezahualcóyotl. According to the 2010 census, the city had a population of 1,445,902, up from 1,297,725 in 2005. The metropolitan area had a population of 3,797,323 in 2010, making it the second most populous metropolitan area in Mexico after Greater Mexico City.
