The artistic Dattatraya temple at Tanch Bahal in Bhaktapur is an excellent example of Nepal's cultural heritage. The temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya. It is mentioned that during Siddhinarsingh's time, his wife Gangarani built a three-storied temple in 709 AD. But many have said that this temple was built by Yakshamalla himself. Some say that Yakshamalle only rebuilt E 1427. It is difficult to say with certainty. Who built this temple? Inside the temple, there is a one-and-a-half-foot-tall idol of Dattatreya, the son of sage Atri and Sati Ansuya, symbolizing Brahma, Bishnu and Maheshwar. This idol can be seen by the devotees even when the temple is not open. This Dattatreya temple attracts a large number of devotees on the Monday of Shrawan month, Wednesday of Poush and the great festival of Nepali women, Teej. In addition to this, on the day of Margashukla Punirma i.e. Dhanya Punirma, Hindus and Buddhists all equally consider these deities. The temple is open to the public only in the morning and evening and is closed during the day. Bhajan kirtan is performed regularly in this temple. According to popular belief, if the offerings of this temple are given to those whose speech is not clear, the speech becomes clear. The idol of Dattatreya is placed in a khat and is circulated around the city including Bajagaja on the day after the Gaijatra festival. After nearly three weeks of trekking in the Everest region on high altitudes over 4,000 we finally got back to Namche Bazaar. In this case, it felt like coming back to developed civilization with modern luxuries and amenities.
