Boracay, a small island in the Philippines, draws visitors with its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. You can sunbathe on White Beach, kitesurf at Bulabog Beach, or discover secluded coves on an island-hopping excursion. The island offers scuba diving, cliff jumping, lively nightlife, and local markets. Boracay also maintains sustainable tourism practices to protect its natural environment.

Exploring Boracay's Beaches

White Beach extends for 4 kilometers along Boracay's western coast. The beach is divided into three sections called stations, each with its own atmosphere. Station 1 has the widest beachfront and many upscale resorts. Station 2 is active with numerous restaurants, bars, and shops. Station 3 is generally calmer, suitable for those seeking a more relaxed environment. For a different experience, visit Puka Beach in the north of the island, which has coarser sand composed of puka shells and a more isolated feel.

Water Activities in Boracay

You can participate in many water sports and activities around the island. Bulabog Beach on the eastern side is popular among kiteboarders and windsurfers, particularly during the Amihan season from November to April when winds are strongest. For scuba diving and snorkeling, you can explore the coral gardens near Crocodile Island or the underwater world at Ilig-Iligan Beach. If you prefer a more laid-back activity, take a sunset sail on a traditional paraw boat, which provides views of the island as the sun sets.

Getting to Boracay

To reach Boracay, fly to either Caticlan Airport (the closest option) or Kalibo International Airport. From Caticlan, take a 10-15 minute drive to the jetty port, followed by a 15-minute boat ride to the island. If you land in Kalibo, take a 2-hour bus or van ride to the jetty port before boarding the boat to Boracay. On the island, travel by electric tricycles, which help reduce pollution and support the island's eco-friendly initiatives.

Best Time to Visit Boracay

The best time to visit Boracay depends on your preferences. The dry season from November to May has sunny weather suitable for beach activities. However, this is also the busiest time, especially during March to May. If you want smaller crowds, consider visiting during June to July or September to October. Keep in mind that August typically has the most rain, which might limit outdoor activities but could result in lower prices for accommodations.

Local Cuisine and Dining

Boracay's food scene includes various cuisines. You can find local Filipino dishes and international options. For local flavors, try the fresh seafood at D'Talipapa market where you can buy your own fish and have it cooked at nearby restaurants. Many beachfront restaurants allow you to enjoy your meal with your feet in the sand. Sample some Filipino specialties like adobo (a meat dish cooked in vinegar and soy sauce) or halo-halo (a dessert made with shaved ice and various sweet toppings).
