Gujranwala is a city in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is the capital of Gujranwala District. The city is located about 80 km west of Lahore, and is the seventh most populous city in Pakistan. According to the 1998 census, the population of the city was 1,584,000. Gujranwala is an old city, with a history dating back to the Vedic period. The city was the capital of the ancient Gandhara kingdom.
