Situated in the heart of the Russian Far East, the city of Artyom is a picturesque stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The city is located on the banks of the Yenisei River and is surrounded by the forests and mountains of the Russian taiga. Artyom is a relatively new city, founded only in 1979, and its architecture reflects the Soviet era in which it was built. The city is home to the world’s longest railway tunnel, the Severny Tunnel, which stretches for more than 16 miles. Artyom is also home to the world’s largest power plant, the Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam.
