Gatchina is a small town located in the Leningrad Oblast of Russia, about 42 kilometers south of Saint Petersburg. It is home to the Gatchina Palace, one of the most important royal residences in Russia. The palace was built in the 18th century for Count Grigory Orlov, one of Catherine the Great's lovers, and was used as a residence by the Russian imperial family until the Russian Revolution of 1917. The palace and the town were seized by the Bolsheviks and turned into a museum. Today, Gatchina is a popular tourist destination, and the palace is one of the most visited museums in Russia.
