Magas is a small town in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia. It is located on the left bank of the Terek River, on the border with Georgia. The town is known for its fortress, which is one of the oldest fortresses in the North Caucasus. The fortress was originally built by the Persians in the 6th century BC. It was later rebuilt by the Arabs, and then by the Russians in the 19th century.
