Located in the Kaluga Oblast region of Russia, Obninsk is a city of just over 100,000 people. It was founded in 1945 as a center for nuclear research and is home to the world’s first nuclear power plant, which was commissioned in 1954. The city is also known for its many science museums, including the Museum of the History of Science and Technology and the Museum of Nuclear Energy. There are also a few parks and gardens, including the city’s largest, the Park of the 50th Anniversary of the October Revolution.
