Trenčín may be small, but it punches well above its weight when it comes to attractions. The mighty Trenčín Castle looms over the city, while the ruins of the ancient Pálava Castle are just a short walk away. The river Váh meanders through the city, providing a pretty backdrop to the well-preserved medieval centre. The main square is home to the Town Hall, as well as a smattering of churches and other historic buildings. There are also a few excellent museums, including the Trenčín Museum of History and the Považská galéria Trenčín (Považská Gallery Trenčín), which is dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Trenčín is also a great place to enjoy a drink or a meal, with a good selection of restaurants and bars.
