Mogadishu is a city in a state of flux. The Somali capital has been through more than its fair share of hardship and heartache in recent years, but there’s a palpable sense of hope in the air as the city rebuilds. Despite the security risks, there are plenty of things to see and do in Mogadishu. The vibrant mercantile district of Hamar Weyne is a great place to start, with its bustling markets and colourful array of stalls. The city’s beaches are also worth a visit, and offer a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Be sure to visit the National Museum, which has been extensively looted but is still home to a wealth of Somali cultural artefacts. And when night falls, the city comes alive, with a buzzing nightlife and a diverse range of restaurants and bars.
