Kobani is a small city in the north of Syria, near the Turkish border. It is best known for being the site of a major battle between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in 2014 and 2015. The city was almost completely destroyed in the fighting, but has been gradually rebuilt. Kobani is now home to a large number of refugees from other parts of Syria.
